24 HOURS IN MILAN

Go behind the scenes in Milan with BRUNA’s ESG Manager, Alessandra Gargiulo, on the occasion of the shoot for our spring collection, Out Of Office. A Milan local, Ale shares her favorite places to pass the time, including pasticcerias, art museums, and the best spot for a negroni sbagliato.

ESPRESSO

Start your day with an espresso and cornetto from Marchesi 1824. It’s a historic coffee place in the perfect Milanese style. In addition to the original pasticceria, they also opened one under the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and one in Montenapoleone.

ART

Take a walk through Milan’s cultural center and visit the Pinacoteca di Brera. This is a national gallery of ancient and modern art. It’s also home to my favorite painting—Il Bacio (The Kiss) by Francesco Hayez. Also check out the art at the incredible Fondazione Prada or the Villa Carlotta, a historic residence turned museum and botanical garden. While you’re at Fondazione Prada, stop by the in-house Bar Luce—a charming café designed by Wes Anderson with whimsical decor and retro pinball machines.

SHOP

Shop—or window shop—around the neighborhood of Montenapoleone, which includes via della Spiga and via Manzoni. This is the heart of high-end shopping in Milan and is absolutely beautiful to visit. Don’t miss the little Fontana dei Tritoni, which you can spot in our campaign shoot. 10 Corso Como is another great concept store and cultural center opened by Carla Sozzani, a former fashion editor and publisher.

SNACK

Eat a panzerotto at Luini on via Santa Radegonda. Although panzerotto is a typical street food from Puglia in the south, this bakery has become a landmark in Milan. It’s just a few steps from the Duomo. Eat yours while enjoying the view of the cathedral or one of the many beautiful squares nearby like the Piazza San Fedele or Piazza della Scale.

The best way to get around the city is to take tram line 1. This is the oldest tram line and it still goes through the historic center.

RELAX

Relax at one of Milan’s favorite parks like the Giardini Indro Montanelli—which we call Parco di Porta Venezia. I love going here with a book or just walking around. Other parks include Parco Sempione right behind the Castello Sforzesco.

There are a few great places in Milan to get gelato and Antica Gelateria Sartori, a little kiosk next to the station, is one of the best. My personal favorite is Terra Gelata on via Vitruvio. It’s apparently also one of the best in Italy, but it’s not a famous or traditional place—more of a hidden gem.

APERITIVO

It’s a must to have aperitivo in Milan. There are so many places I love, but I’d recommend having drinks in the garden at LùBar on via Palestro. There’s also the amazing Bar Basso where they first invented the negroni sbagliato, which you shouldn’t miss if you’re in the city.

DINNER

When it comes to dinner, Trattoria Milanese dal 1933 is the best restaurant for enjoying typical Milanese food like saffron risotto with ossobuco or cotoletta alla Milanese. It’s located on via Santa Marta, which is one of the cinque vie (five streets/roads) and a hub for art, culture, and contemporary design. Think lots of galleries, antique shops, and more.

Another unmissable restaurant in Milan, Carlo e Camilla in Segheria is a one-of-a-kind eatery housed in a defunct sawmill that contains a beautiful chandelier and a single, large cross-shaped table at which chef Carlo Cracco revisits classic dishes in a contemporary setting.
