Ever since BRUNA was born, by a chance discovery on the island of Tahiti, we’ve dedicated ourselves to designing exceptional jewelry that compliments nature’s beauty and diversity.

Sharing that we are Climate Neutral Certified makes us so proud and excited for the journey ahead.

The heart of BRUNA has always been Fine jewelry made responsibly, and being Climate Neutral Certified is just one step towards honoring our mantra.

How did we become Climate Neutral Certified?

We measured our CO₂ emissions for 2021 (3,295 tonnes) and are actively and continuously working on reducing our impact further throughout our production and supply chain.

Zero emissions is an unrealistic goal. Every company causes emissions, regardless of how sustainable or economical it is. While causing emissions is unavoidable, there are ways we can reduce and offset our impact through climate protection projects.

MEASURE – REDUCE – OFFSET

3 STEPS TO BECOMING CLIMATE NEUTRAL. LET´S BREAK THIS DOWN:

ONE.

Measure

It starts by knowing your impact - and then working hard to be kinder to our planet. Our CO₂ emissions for 2021 measured 3,295 tCO₂e. Although this amount is ‘not so bad by comparison – we believe there is still room to improve and to keep our emissions as low as possible.

TWO.

Reduce

Sourcing the right stuff.

We are very aware that the extraction of raw metals significantly impacts the environment, which is why we only use recycled metals to create our jewels. Our other natural materials, such as gemstones and pearls, are responsibly sourced, each handpicked with care. We believe that beautiful packaging does not need to cost the earth. That’s why we only use plastic-free packaging made of grass-based, recycled materials and water-based inks.

THREE.

Offset

Let’s talk about those unavoidable emissions

In 2022, we invested $39,540.00 in Carbon Credits to offset our unavoidable emissions from 2021. With this contribution, we supported a variety of Climate Neutral Protection Projects and, in doing so, helped to reduce the impact we had on our planet. Take a look below to see which projects we supported through this contribution:

Avoided Deforestation in Brazil
The Agrocortex avoided deforestation project aims to preserve and protect some of the most threatened forests on the planet and a vital biodiversity corridor that connects the Andes to the Amazon.

Dempsey Ridge Wind Project
Dempsey Ridge Wind Project generates wind energy near Cheyenne, Oklahoma, to reduce dependence on fossil fuel energy. The wind farm generates up to 132 megawatts of energy, which helps to power approximately 46,000 homes per year while reducing nearly 225,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year.

Landfill Gas in China
This project works towards reducing methane emissions from the Haicheng Landfill site in Laojianshan, China from entering our atmosphere. This project will collect landfill gas (methane) and use it for electricity generation, with an annual power generation expected to be 16,000 MWh.

So what does Climate Neutral really mean?

Climate Neutral is about balancing your CO₂ calculation.

We keep measuring our emissions (+) while seeking to reduce them. By supporting Protection Projects, we offset our impact (-).

ALL THINGS IN BALANCE = CLIMATE NEUTRAL.

As proud as we are of this achievement, we see this as just the beginning of our journey.
