BRUNA’s Positive Impact Fund

BRUNA’s Positive Impact Fund

At BRUNA, we truly believe that the beauty of our jewelry lies in the wonders of nature and the skilled craftsmanship of our jewelry makers.

Each and every piece is infused with the passion, talent, and hard work of these individuals who are dedicated to crafting exquisite designs that capture the essence of nature's beauty.

For this reason, we are committed to protecting and conserving natural resources, and to making our contribution so that the jewelry industry becomes a source of dignified work for all.

We're committed to using our business and community as a force for good, and to ensure that we're giving back as much as we take.

That's why we've established our Positive Impact Fund with ambitious goals that contribute to our vision of creating jewelry with a positive impact on ecosystems.

We're honored to have this opportunity and we hope that together we can create a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

OUR GOALS

01- PROTECTING AND RESTORING THE NATURAL ECOSYSTEM

Conserve 500 hectares of land, rivers, and/or oceans by 2030

We recognize that nature has inherent value in its own right and that biodiversity plays a crucial role in supporting life. If some species—even tiny ones like bees—were to decline or disappear, we would no longer have access to important services provided by healthy ecosystems, including clean air and water, fertile soil for growing crops, pollination, and flood prevention. This is why we’re committed to contributing to the conservation and/or restoration of 500 hectares of land, rivers, and/or oceans and their ecosystems by 2030.

02- CHALLENGING AND CHAMPIONING A BETTER JEWELRY INDUSTRY

Improve the life of workers involved in artisanal and small-scale mining activities

The jewelry industry relies heavily on raw materials, including precious metals and gemstones, that are sourced from communities in developing and emerging economies. However, miners often struggle to break free from the poverty cycle, which makes supporting their communities all the more critical. To this end, we are committed to positively impacting the lives of workers involved in artisanal and small-scale mining activities through partnerships with relevant non-profit organizations. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the jewelry sector becomes a source of dignified work for all.

03INSPIRING AND EMPOWERING THE BRUNA COMMUNITY

Support the dreams of admirable changemakers in the BRUNA community

At BRUNA, we’re eager to do our best to make a difference. But we can’t change the world alone. That’s why we aim to surround ourselves with a community of changemakers who are on the same mission. And that’s why we choose to help admirable community members or organizations who are making a difference through our Positive Impact Fund. The funds are used to support education, entrepreneurial activities, and civic engagement initiatives.

PROJECTS SUPPORTED

Since 2019, we have donated over €225,000 to trusted charities that are fighting for a better future for all. You can learn more about the projects we’ve supported below.

Helping a female-led mine site go “chemical-free”

Artisanal gold miners are the world’s largest consumers of mercury. Used to separate gold from waste rock, mercury is a powerful neurotoxin that’s harmful to the environment and to people, especially pregnant women. With a $10,000 donation to The Impact Facility, BRUNA is contributing to the introduction of low-tech, easy-to-use equipment at a female-run mine operation in Osiri Matanda, a large mining community in Western Kenya. The goal of this is to demonstrate the feasibility of alternative mercury-free processing techniques and encourage a move away from harmful chemicals. Learn more about this project here.

Supporting the next generation of women mining engineers

With a donation of $7,500, we're sponsoring an internship position for a female mining engineer and graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to join The Impact Facility’s team of artisanal mining experts and engineers. This support will enhance the skills and long-term career prospects of local female mining professionals in a sector that is still largely male-dominated, and enable mining communities supported by The Impact Facility to receive comprehensive technical support. Inspiring hope through action with Roots & Shoots

Part of the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots program, NICE (Network Intercultural Exchange) is a global initiative that brings together like-minded young people from various countries to foster cross-cultural connections and mutual learning while offering support to motivated changemakers in their efforts to implement projects for the betterment of animals, people, and the environment. The project focuses on topics such as peace, forest conservation, climate action, and raw materials/recycling. Running from April 2023 to August 2025, NICE is funded by a €45,000 Austrian grant and a €7,700 contribution from BRUNA.

Saving the bees with the Jane Goodall Institute Austria

The global bee population is declining due to the consequences of human activities. For the second year in a row, on the occasion of Give Back Friday in 2022, we partnered with the Jane Goodall Institut Austria and donated €29,680 to contribute to their holistic reforestation and beekeeping project in Western Uganda that helps protect biodiversity.

Learn more about this project here.

Mit dem Jane Goodall Institut Austria die letzten wildlebenden Schimpansen schützen

Dr. Jane Goodall is one of the world's most famous conservationists and scientists. Her pioneering study of wild chimpanzees revolutionized how we think about both chimpanzees and ourselves.

Between 2021 and 2022, we donated over €71,000 to the Jane Goodall Institute Austria to protect the last wild chimpanzees, preserve their habitats, and strengthen local communities.

Unterstützung ukrainischer Geflüchteter mit der Caritas

To show our solidarity with the millions of Ukrainian women and children who were forced to leave their homes, we donated €10,000 to Caritas in 2022.

Our donation helps refugees in arrival centers in Austria, providing a warm and comfortable transitory space and healthy food and drinks. It also assists Caritas' partner organizations, mostly in Romania, Poland, and Hungary, where refugees find their first safe haven.

Offsetting carbon emissions with the Change Climate Project

As a Climate Neutral Certified brand, we offset 100% of our residual emissions by investing in climate crisis solutions. In 2022, we spent over €40,000 for the purchasing of carbon credits, thereby supporting nature-based solutions and renewable energy technologies including the Agrocortex Project in Brazil, the Dempsey Ridge Wind Project in the USA, and the Haicheng Landfill Gas Collection Project in China. Learn more about our Climate Neutrality and carbon offsetting program here.

Supporting Agricultural Education with Kindernothilfe Austria

Founded in 1996, Kindernothilfe Austria is a non-profit that aims to give as many children as possible a better life in the world's poorest regions. Projects for sustainable development, the elimination of poverty, and humanitarian aid have been the focus of their work in over 30 countries worldwide for more than 25 years.

In 2022, we donated €10,000 to support the agricultural education and training of 4,500 children and youth in Tacobamba and Sucre, Bolivia, to teach these young people and their communities about the environment, water, forests, and the climate crisis, as a way to fight against malnourishment and maternal and infant mortality.

Advocating for change with Global 2000

GLOBAL 2000, an independent Austrian environmental organization and a member of Friends of the Earth, is the largest international environmental network.

Since 1982, GLOBAL 2000 has been working on radical social themes to uncover potential hazards for humans and the environment. In 2022, we donated €10,500 to help the organization closely monitor and work towards bettering the development of environmental policy in Austria.

Mit WWF die Artenvielfalt erhalten

For 60 years, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has worked to help people and nature thrive. It’s the world’s leading conservation organization and works to help local communities conserve the natural resources they depend upon, transform markets and policies toward sustainability, and protect and restore species and their habitats.

BRUNA has donated over €20,000 to WWF Austria, contributing to WWF’s vision to build a future in which people live in harmony with nature.

Kinderträume erfüllen mit der Stiftung Kindertraum

The joy in a child's eyes is the greatest gift. Every year, Stiftung Kindertraum makes around 200 children's dreams come true. In 2019, BRUNA contributed to this organization with the hope of bringing new energy and confidence to families of children affected by serious illnesses.

Gemeinsam mit dem Sterntalerhof Hoffnung schenken

Sterntalerhof is a children's hospice and harbourage for families with chronically and terminally ill children. The organization’s mission is to bring a feeling of comfort, hope, confidence, and zest for life to children and their families. In 2021, BRUNA donated €5,000 to their cause.
