PROTECTING & RESTORING NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS
The climate crisis is considered the biggest challenge facing today’s and future generations. However, it is not too late to act. At BRUNA, we are committed to doing our part, and we do so by achieving climate neutrality.
We measure, reduce, and, as a last resort, offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the global objectives of the Paris Agreement, as certified by Climate Neutral since 2020.
We strive to reduce our GHG emissions as much as possible, for example by increasing the use of recycled materials, promoting responsible consumption, and improving logistics efficiency. However, we know that generating a residual amount of emissions is, unfortunately, unavoidable.
We compensate for all unavoidable emissions by purchasing Carbon Credits. With this purchase, we support projects that use nature to remove carbon emissions from our atmosphere and fund renewable energy technologies around the world.

OUR CLIMATE ACTION INVESTMENTS
In 2022, we invested over € 40,000 in carbon offsetting projects around the world:
Avoided Deforestation in Brazil
The Agrocortex Avoided Deforestation Project aims to preserve and protect some of the most threatened forests on the planet and a vital biodiversity corridor that connects the Andes to the Amazon. In addition to being a safe haven for over 400 bird and 158 tree species, this project also generates positive social and economic impacts in one of the poorest areas of Brazil.
Wind Energy Generation in Oklahoma
Dempsey Ridge Wind Project generates wind energy near Cheyenne, Oklahoma, to reduce dependence on fossil fuel energy. The wind farm generates up to 132 megawatts of energy, which helps to power approximately 46,000 homes per year while reducing nearly 225,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year.
Landfill Gas Collection in China
This project works towards reducing methane emissions from the Haicheng Landfill site in Laojianshan, China from entering our atmosphere. This project will collect landfill gas (methane) and use it for electricity generation, with an annual power generation expected to be 16,000 megawatt hours.
Natural resources are finite. But not all materials are created equal. It is possible to protect the environment and contribute to equitable supply chains if we carefully choose conscious materials starting from the design phase of our jewels.
For us, “conscious materials” are low-impact materials from responsible suppliers that adhere to our social and environmental standards, in line with our Code of Conduct for Business Partners and Materials Standard.
We believe in maximizing the use of resources that are already available. This is achieved, for example, by introducing recycled paper in our shipping boxes, and by adopting 100% recycled gold and sterling silver for our jewels.
We know, however, that gold mining represents an important source of livelihood for millions of workers around the world, often trapped in a poverty cycle. It is for this reason that, moving forward, we will adopt measures to support artisanal gold mining communities.

100% ETHICAL PRECIOUS METALS
We adopt 100% ethical gold and silver for all jewels. As of today, our solid gold, gold vermeil, and silver jewelry is made of 100% recycled gold and silver, an important milestone for the reduction of our carbon footprint. In the future, we will adopt measures to support artisanal mining communities, thereby contributing to their sustainable development and empowerment.
Laboratory-grown diamonds are an extraordinary example of human ingenuity. It can replicate this incredible gift of nature, without the traditional social and environmental impacts of diamond mining, while maintaining the same optical, chemical, and physical characteristics of diamonds - their brilliance and endurance. After all, what could better symbolize love?
PERFECTLY IMPERFECT PEARLS
Our signature pearls are our beloved perfectly imperfect, including Keshi and Baroque pearls. Known for their individuality, unpredictable and irregular shapes, they are considered a by-product in pearl farming’s search for perfection. At BRUNA, we celebrate the unique beauty of each pearl, and give them a new life in our collections. More here.
LOW IMPACT PACKAGING
For our jewelry and shipping boxes, we adopt plastic-free packaging. We use paper sourced from responsibly-managed forests, grass paper and water-based inks. We have redesigned our shipping boxes to include a ring sizer in the inlay of every order, a creative idea that now gives our boxes a second life. Watch out for further improvements to come!
Biodiversity is critical to supporting life on Earth. For this reason, we pay careful attention to the impact of our supply chains on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and are conscious of the interrelations between planet, people and animals.
Knowing that our beautiful jewels depend on precious natural resources, since 2019, we have donated over € 200,000 to non-profit organizations, prioritizing those working towards conservation & restoration, resilient communities, and just economies.
Since 2021, we are proud partners of the Jane Goodall Institute Austria, a global non-profit organization founded by the inspiring Dr. Jane Goodall with the goal of protecting chimpanzees and other primates through holistic species conservation.
In 2022 alone, we raised over € 53,000 to help protect the last wild chimpanzees, preserve their habitats, and strengthen local communities; as well as support their holistic reforestation and beekeeping project in Western Uganda.

“What’s really important is to give people hope (...).
So how to give people hope? Explain to them that they as individuals matter, that what they do each day has some impact on the planet and they can choose what sort of impact to make.”
